The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) has elected Dr Alison Wright as its next President. The result of the 2025 Presidential election was officially declared today. Dr Wright will take up the role in December 2025, succeeding the current President, Professor Ranee Thakar.
Nominations for the RCOG Presidency opened in February and closed in March, with Dr Alison Wright standing as one of five candidates. Voting was open to RCOG Fellows and Members across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, and took place between 19 May and 17 June 2025. The result was officially announced on 20 June, confirming Dr Wright as the College’s next President.
Dr Wright, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist based in London, brings years of clinical experience to her new role. She currently serves as Immediate Past Vice-President of the RCOG, has advised NHS England and NHS Improvement on personalised maternity care, and represents the UK on safe motherhood initiatives for FIGO. During her time as Vice-President, she played a key role in establishing RCOG’s “Supporting Our Doctors” service, which provides vital support to members experiencing stress and burnout.
Dr Wright’s forthcoming presidency will coincide with the implementation of RCOG’s new five-year strategic plan, which focuses on strengthening professional standards, advancing education, and refining clinical guidelines. The strategy also aims to elevate the role of imaging in obstetric and gynaecological diagnostics, while fostering workforce development, building global partnerships, and promoting the wellbeing of RCOG members.
