About us

The British Society for Gynaecological Imaging was founded in 2007 by a small group of obstetricians and gynaecologists, a radiologist, a medical physicist and a radiographer, who were passionate about promoting high standards in the application of ultrasound in our specialty. There were those whose practice was primarily in gynaecology and others whose practice was divided between obstetric ultrasound, early pregnancy and gynaecology, but believed in the Society’s mission and vision and thus joined its founding committee.

Since then membership has continued to increase with many established clinicians, trainees, and allied health professionals joining the society and attending its annual scientific meeting and workshops.

From the outset, the Society’s prinicpal focus was to promote excellence in ultrasound training and upskilling of established clinicians who were looking for opportunities to continually develop their knowledge and ultrasound skills in the specialty.

The Society is a firm believer in the multidisciplinary nature of our practice and encourages interaction between the disciplines to increase awarenes of their varying and often complimentary roles, promote good practices and learn from each other the art of ultrasound scanning and its relevance to clinical practice.

The activities of the BSGI are directed by its Committee, elected by the membership. All disciplines are represented in the Committee. A number of sub-committees are established for specific areas, such as Education and Training, Meetings, Continued Professional Development, and Website. The Committee meets four times a year, normally at the Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, London and reports to the Annual General Meeting, which is held during the Annual Scientific Meeting.
