The BSGI was delighted to welcome delegates, faculty and industry partners to our Annual Scientific Meeting on 19 June 2026 at the prestigious 1 Wimpole Street in London. Despite the early start and soaring summer temperatures, the day was filled with enthusiasm, collaboration and exceptional educational content. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the team at 1 Wimpole Street for their hospitality.
Our President, Mr Anthony Griffiths, opened the meeting by welcoming delegates before delivering an excellent lecture on imaging in endometriosis. His session set the tone for a fascinating and informative programme focused on advancing excellence in gynaecological imaging.
Consultant Radiologist Dr Adam Abolakaz followed with an insightful session on OASI and pelvic floor diagnostics, one of his specialist interests. We were then delighted to welcome Consultant Interventional Radiologist Dr James Harding from University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, who delivered an exceptional presentation on pelvic venous disorders, sharing both his expertise and practical clinical experience.
Dr Adam Abolakaz kindly returned to the floor delivering a second highly engaging session on rectovaginal endometriosis, sharing expert insights into this complex area of practice.
Following a refreshment break, the morning programme continued with BSGI Honorary Treasurer and internationally recognised speaker Ms Ghada Salman, who delivered an informative and thought-provoking lecture on uterine niche diagnoses and management. Delegates also benefited from the expertise of our Immediate Past President, Ms Leena Gokhale, whose session on postmenopausal bleeding combined clinical excellence with valuable practical advice, including important considerations for maintaining patient comfort and dignity throughout the diagnostic process.
It was an honour to welcome Miss Lina Antoun from Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital. As a Consultant Gynaecologist and Minimal Access Surgeon, her presentation on imaging-led fibroid ablation was one of the many highlights of the programme.
The morning lecture series concluded with BSGI friend Mr Ron Chowdhury, whose session on imaging adenomyosis provided valuable clinical insights. As always, Ron’s engaging delivery and practical expertise were greatly appreciated by delegates.
A particularly significant moment for the Society came with the official launch of Governance in Gynaecological Imaging: A British Society for Gynaecological Imaging Document on Standards and Delivery. We look forward to making this document available through the BSGI website in the near future.
Lunch provided an excellent opportunity for delegates to network, reconnect with colleagues and discuss the morning’s presentations. We were also fortunate to be supported by an outstanding group of exhibitors, whose contributions helped create valuable opportunities for discussion, collaboration and hands-on learning throughout the day.
A particular highlight of this year’s meeting was the poster exhibition. The breadth, quality and innovation demonstrated across the submissions were exceptional, and our independent judges were highly complimentary of the standard of work on display.
The afternoon practical workshops, generously supported by our industry partners, offered delegates the opportunity to explore topics of particular interest in greater depth. Through access to a range of ultrasound systems, simulators and expert faculty, delegates were able to gain valuable hands-on experience and practical skills. We are particularly grateful to Sonography Educator Angie White, who shared her expertise in imaging pelvic venous disorders, and Consultant Radiologist Dr Fuad Hussain, who delivered multiple small-group sessions aimed at demystifying MRI and increasing delegates’ confidence in interpreting imaging findings. Their enthusiasm and expertise greatly enhanced the practical learning experience and were highly valued by delegates.
We were delighted to celebrate excellence in research and innovation when BSGI Vice President Mr Alan Treharne presented the 2026 Award for Excellence in Gynaecological Imaging to Laura Jones for her outstanding poster submission, Patient Perception of Imaging in Endometriosis – A National Survey.
As the meeting drew to a close, President Mr Anthony Griffiths thanked delegates, faculty, exhibitors and organisers for their commitment, enthusiasm and participation throughout the day.
