The BSGI was delighted to deliver another highly successful Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Ultrasound Workshop at The Grange Hospital in Cwmbran — a sold-out event bringing together healthcare professionals from across the UK with a shared passion for ultrasound education and women’s health.
The workshop welcomed a fantastic multidisciplinary mix of delegates including nurse sonographers, midwife sonographers, radiology and gynaecology trainees, alongside experienced consultants, creating a collaborative and engaging learning environment throughout the day.
The course began with a warm welcome from course host and organiser Mrs Rowena Sharma, followed by opening remarks from BSGI President Mr Anthony Griffiths, who highlighted the importance of accessible, high-quality ultrasound education and hands-on training opportunities.
The morning programme featured an excellent series of lectures delivered by expert faculty members, beginning with an engaging session on ultrasound physics from Professor Neil Pugh, followed by a practical and informative lecture on transvaginal scanning from Mr Alan Treharne.
After refreshments and networking opportunities, delegates continued the morning with insightful sessions from Mrs Sophie Wong on early pregnancy problems and Mrs Irina Ramzan on uterine abnormalities, both of which generated excellent discussion and audience participation.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the extensive practical scanning component, with delegates rotating through supervised small-group scanning stations supported by our expert faculty. These hands-on sessions including live patient scanning, provided invaluable opportunities for delegates to develop scanning confidence, refine technique, and receive direct feedback from experienced trainers.
A hot buffet lunch — always a favourite part of the day — provided further opportunity for networking and discussion between delegates, faculty, and industry representatives.
The afternoon sessions continued with excellent lectures from Ms Eman Elkattan on adnexal and adnexal pathology, followed by Dr Khulood Al-Rawi discussing scanning in gynaecological emergencies. Delegates then returned to the practical stations for further supported supervised scanning, allowing enhanced learning opportunities and dedicated time with faculty trainers.
The workshop concluded with a fun and interactive quiz, prizes, and closing thanks from the faculty team following a packed and rewarding day of education.
