BSGI Vice President, Mr Alan Treharne, has co-authored a feature article in The BMJ alongside Baroness Ilora Finlay.

The article outlines how integrated Women’s Health Hubs, equipped with advanced ultrasound and imaging, can improve the delivery of women’s healthcare across the UK. By embedding diagnostics into community settings, care can become more accessible, responsive, and equitable.

Mr Treharne highlights that placing diagnostic imaging at the centre of these hubs can:

• Enable earlier and more accurate diagnoses
• Streamline patient pathways
• Reduce pressure on hospital services
• Improve access to specialist gynaecological care

“Good gynaecological care exists, but too few women can access it. Embedding imaging and diagnostics in community hubs is a crucial step towards equity and responsiveness in women’s health,” says Mr Treharne.
