Terminology in gynaecological ultrasound is increasingly recognised as an important part of clinical practice, yet variation in the language used to describe ultrasound findings remains common. Differences in terminology, including the use of ambiguous, outdated or potentially misleading terms, can influence how findings are interpreted and may have implications for subsequent diagnosis and management.

This webinar will explore key areas where terminology can vary in gynaecological ultrasound, considering the clinical implications of how findings are described and understood. Through practical examples, the session will examine commonly used terminology and the move towards greater standardisation, with a focus on supporting consistency in clinical interpretation, diagnosis and management.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Mathew Leonardi as our speaker. Dr Leonardi is an Associate Professor at McMaster University Medical Centre in Hamilton, Canada, and a specialist in complex gynaecologic surgery and ultrasound, with a particular focus on endometriosis. He is also an Honorary Adjunct Lecturer at Adelaide University and an Honorary Associate Professor at Western Sydney University.

Dr Leonardi is a nationally and internationally recognised leader in complex gynaecology and ultrasound. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles and several textbook chapters, and has presented internationally on complex gynaecology and ultrasound. He serves on the Board of the World Endometriosis Society and is a founding member of the Next Generation Committee at the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG). He is also an Associate Editor for Reproduction & Fertility and serves on the editorial boards of several leading journals.
