Since the foundation of the British Society for Gynaecological Imaging (BSGI), our mission statement was clear in that we aim to promote education and training in this ever-changing field. We believe that through this we can reach another goal in the society that is to promote professional standards in imaging practice.

The BSGI has worked and continues to work closely with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) through several meetings with College officers to ensure collaboration in the educational aims.

The RCOG has introduced a new competency-based ultrasound training programme that forms a compulsory part of the curriculum for doctors undergoing specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology. The society has been very active in the debate initiated by the newly appointed College ultrasound officer in the deliverability of the module. This debate has also been included in our previous annual scientific meetings.

The BSGI workshops both national and regional have successfully addressed the requirements for the core skills determined in the obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound curriculum. The Society is working with many ultrasound coordinators in different Deaneries to role out one-day trainees’ focussed hands-on core ultrasound skills workshops, supplying the materials necessary for standardised practice.

Our annual scientific meetings programmes provide state of the art lectures and debates by experts in the field, oral and poster communications, and sessions dedicated to training issues and quality assurance schemes in ultrasound practice. They present the delegates with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of recent developments in ultrasound and imaging.
