Welcome to the Sonographers' page

The BSGI offers exciting opportunities for Sonographers. As the professional group undertaking the majority of gynaecological ultrasound scans, sonographers can bring a wealth of experience to the society and benefit from opportunities to engage with others from a variety of professional groups, sharing a common interest in the delivery of the highest quality gynaecological imaging and learning of the latest developments in the field.

With the advent of Any Qualified Provider (AQP) in England, many more Sonographers will be providing services in novel settings outside the traditional ultrasound department.  For some this may result in them interacting less with others with a professional interest in gynaecological imaging, making information sharing and keeping up to date with the latest developments difficult. As a member of the BSGI you can benefit from opportunities to fulfil CPD requirements for professional registration and for hospital PDRs through the Annual Scientific Meeting, educational meetings and participation in online CPD. Members are welcome to submit interesting cases for inclusion in the CPD section of the website.

Those involved in the delivery of practical ultrasound training to Specialist Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will be aware that this training relies heavily on the support of sonographers. The RCOG Ultrasound Officer links with all relevant societies including the BSGI to ensure that the training is relevant and deliverable making membership of the BSGI a valuable resource for sonographers involved in the practical training to keep up to date with developments. The Annual Scientific Meeting will, from 2014 include an information session and workshop targeted to professionals involved in this training, which will be particularly relevant to Sonographers.

I hope you find the website informative and if you have any questions please contact me through BSGI Secretariat.

Jacquie Torrington, Sonographer
